how the little girl survived and neighbors made sure the driver didn't get away. >> and governor brown's newest fight isn't against lawmakers. his plan to beat cancer. playful prank or dangerous driving? a police officer claims responsible for this high-speed joyride through town. that's not even the most disturbing claim. >> reporter: we're here at the broadway tunnel where all of this happened. this is a 35-mile per hour zone. the person claims he was behind the wheel is an officer going 100 miles per hour. the video itself is astonishing. revs the engine, hurdles ahead going from 0-100 through the broadway

tunnel in 26 seconds flat! even more surprising, the man who claims he was in the car, a san francisco police officer. >> is he going to lose his job? that's very reckless. >> he took advantage of it because he's a cop. >> reporter: a cop who posted the joyride on his facebook page. in the comment section, he brags "we were all drunk" to the shock of people we showed the video to. >> there's no points for being smart. it's not the smartest thing for someone to do, especially in that position. >> reporter: there is a school and a playground close to the russian hillside of the tunnel where the joyride began. it appears there were no other cars at the tunnel. >> they went through there, no cars in there, i would describe this as simply driving with purpose. >> reporter: the officer is facing an internal investigation, and the prospect

of serious punishment. >> reporter: it's unclear exactly what kind of punishment he could face. he has since removed the video and shut down his facebook page entirely. a developing story out of orange county tonight. these are live pictures at cal state fullerton where students are staying indoors where police search for an armed robbery suspect. the search is focused on three buildings. five suspects robbed a riverside county jewelry store and led the chp on a chase that ended at csu fullerton. three of them have been arrested so far. of police believed at least one of the other two is hiding somewhere on the campus. and this is the chase. one of those suspect s led on this case. the suspect bailed near the fullerton campus and

carjacked this silver car. he maked bad place to -- picked a bad place to ditch it though. he ran into a baseball diamond where the los angeles police chief was handing out toys. the suspect gave up. one look at this evidence, and it's amazing the toddler didn't even suffer a scratch. a pickup truck slammed into the wall of the child's room and snapped her crib clear in half. live in san jose with what happened next. >> reporter: they took her to the hospital, and doctors checked her out and let her go after just an hour. we're standing right in the path of where the truck went. it went over the fence, crashed into the corner of the building. the truck swung around and snacked right into the wall of the other side. >> my christmas miracle, new year's miracle, everything miracle. >> reporter: they were busy

today hammering plywood over a hole in the wall of the apartment. at 3:30 am, a drunk driver jumped the curb, hit a wall, spun out, and crashed his truck through her bedroom. >> it was here, my bed was here, the baby's crib was right here. and it hit right here and knocked her -- her head was about right here. when it hit, it knocked her to this dresser here. >> reporter: the force of the impact broke the crib in half and sent here flying. her dad found her on the ground across the room >> it knocked her off all wait to the dresser. and she hit the dresser. she was responsive, but kind of not. and then i was happy to see her crying. sounds crazy. >> reporter: amazingly, she was not hurt. the driver revved his

engine, but neighbors kept him there. >> are you a religious man? >> i'm not , i'm not. but i do believe in god. i'm glad he was there for me. >> reporter: the only person who got hurt was the mother, cut by flying glass. the driver was arrested and charged with dui and hit and run. we are learning more about the gunman behind that deadly oregon mall shooting. of friends of 22-year-old jacob roberts say he was outgoing and energetic but lived a tough life. roberts murdered two strangers and critically wounded the third yesterday before turning the gun on himself. there were about 10,000 people inside the shopping center at the time. but the sheriff there says there's a reason more people were not killed. >> based on the evidence, it appeared to the suspect's rifle did jam while he was attacking individuals in the food court. we all need to be thankful that

this incident wasn't much worse. >> roberts had no criminal record. investigators say he stole the rifle he used from someone he knew. so far there is no apparent motive for the attack. new details tonight on what happened before the discovery of two people found bound and gagged in the middle of a san francisco street. joe vasquez on how the brutal crime went down, and the cryptic aliases the suspects went by. >> reporter: according to court document, the two male sense, one carrying a gun, went inside this home at 3733 san bruno avenue, assaulted the male victim, steven reed, then tied his hands behind his back. then prosecutors say the suspects beat the female victim, 19-year-old audrey prado, hog-tied her averages to her ankles, then gagged her with a sock. last night, a resident here told linda yi that the police took key evidence away

including bedding. >> like what? >> a computer , mattresses, like, beds. >> reporter: after they drove away, police believe one of the suspects shot steven in the neck. both victims were dumped on a sidewalk a half mile away. steven reed was dead. prado is still in the hospital. >> whether they were trying to send a message, or facilitate in the beating and the shooting is still not clear. >> reporter: five of the suspects were arrested at this home in hercules earlier this week. the woman at the door told me the police got it all wrong. but she wouldn't elaborate >> can you tell me anything? >> reporter: in court this afternoon, the judge would not allow us to point cameras at the suspects, but of the four that appeared before the judge, two men and one woman were charged with murder, another charged with assault. the suspects had

sears aliases -- this also is also the place where two of the women happened to live. one of them was released from jail, neighbors say she grabbed her stuff and is done. nothing to do with politics. governor brown has a new fight on his hands tonight, and it has nothing to do with politics. he has been diagnosed with early stage prostate cancer. cbs 5 reporter linda yi on his current treatment and prognosis. >> i'm slowing down a little bit. but i run 20 miles in 29 minutes. >> reporter: he's in pretty good shape for a man in his 70s. >> i hereby challenge governor christie to a 3-mile race. [ cheering and applause ] >> and whenever he wants to bet, i have no doubt doubt of the outcome. >> reporter: prostate cancer is his latest challenge. getting conventional radiation therapy, his oncologist said it's early stage prostate cancer, and the prognosis is excellent. >> most people that have this are in their 60s, 70s, or 80s. >> reporter: the doctor doesn't treat the govern, but he says brown will have radiation daily. >> monday through friday each day for about 10 minutes a day. the treatments are painless. he comes in, lays on the table, gets a treat, he doesn't feel anything from it. it doesn't slow him down. >> reporter: in 2011, the governor had skin cancer removed from his nose.

but that has no impact on this prostate cancer. >> reporter: no side effects are expected from the treatment, and the governor plans to keep up a full schedule. of the therapy is expected to know completed by the end of the first week in january. >> the >> the next 48 hours are crucial in the ongoing fiscal cliff talk because president obama won't consider gop cuts to entitlement programs like medicare and medicaid until republicans agree to raise income taxes on people making $250,000 or more a year. one thing both sides agree on, there's a long way to go for a deal can be reached. >> there were some offers exchanged yesterday. and the president and i have pretty frank conversations about how far apart we are. >> there is no indication the republican leadership is willing

san francisco police saved a newborn's life. they were called to the providence baptist church shel quick action by san francisco police saved a newborn's life. they were called to the providence baptist view shelter after a woman began pounding on the door. she was covered in blood and told the man who answered that she had a baby but she didn't have the infant with her. thinking she had been assaulted, are the worker called 911. >> she was a little hysterical, said she wanted to come, she wanted to come in at first. and then when she came back with the baby, she did not want to come in. >> by the time police arrived, the woman had handed the child off to someone else. of the baby wasn't breathing, but officers were able to revive it on the way to the hospital. the mother could face charges for child endangerment and abandonment. it's not doomsday, but it's something we'll never see again in our lifetimes. a repeating
